Elsa Harris was convicted of careless driving after cops caught her eating a banana behind the wheel.

Maybe she should a-peel.

A British woman was convicted of careless driving after cops caught her eating a banana behind the wheel.

Elsa Harris, 45, was stuck in traffic when she decided to have a quick snack, reported Mirror Online.

But police swooped when she took her hands off the wheel to peel the fruit, with an officer claiming she was not in control of her vehicle in Weymouth, Dorset, last June.

After Harris refused to pay the on-the-spot fine of $ 150, her case was sent to court, where her lawyer advised her to reluctantly plead guilty as she would not win the case.

“I just feel the whole thing is a joke. It has been the most expensive banana I’ve ever had in my life,” furious Harris said afterwards.

The offense is considered as serious as hitting a pedestrian or causing a collision.

But Dorset Police statement said Harris was “risking the safety of other road users” when she took her hands off the wheel to peel the banana.

“The driver slipped up when they declined the offer of a course and elected to challenge the case in court,” they said in a statement.
