Isola: Panthers, not HGH stories, will ruin Peyton's ending

Are you ready for two weeks of insufferable Peyton Manning coverage?

In the 13 days between last year’s conference championship and the Super Bowl the main storyline was Tom Brady and Deflategate. Maybe someone will interrupt the Manning lovefest to revisit the HGH story which miraculously died a quick and painless death. Fair is fair.

For Manning to ride off into the sunset as a Super Bowl champion — like his boss John Elway did — he’ll need another dominating performance from the Broncos defense.

According to NFL.com, Tom Brady took more hits against Denver (20) than any QB in any game all year — regular season or playoffs.

Denver used the same formula the Giants used in both Super Bowl wins over New England; pressure Brady and hit him. Only the Broncos hit him harder. And more often.

Brady was suffering from a severe case of happy feet for most of the day.

MYERS: MANNING TOPS BRADY AGAIN IN AFC TITLE GAME

LET’S BE FRANK

Keep reminding yourself that the Arizona Cardinals went 13-3 during the regular season with Carson Palmer as their quarterback.

The celebrations are a bit excessive to say the least but no one seems to have more fun than Cam Newton. The Broncos dominated Brady and were one play away from heading to overtime. Not sure how Denver can stop Newton and Carolina.

If the Colts had a defense like the Broncos when Manning was in his prime, Eli’s older brother would have five Super Bowl rings by now.

Manning’s pass that was ruled a lateral is a perfect example of how nutty NFL rules can be.

It was originally ruled an incomplete pass but after the Patriots challenged the call it was overturned and ruled a lateral.

On the play, the Patriots Jonathan Freeny picked up the errant throw but was not given credit for a TD since the whistle had blown the play dead.

In fact, the whistle blew before Freeny recovered the fumble. So if the whistle didn’t blow the play dead before the fumble why doesn’t the TD count?

RAISSMAN’S UPON FURTHER REVIEW: JAY FEELY ON POINT FOR CBS

Former NFL referee turned CBS analyst Mike Carey extended his streak of incorrectly predicting calls to 32 straight games.

CBS should rent Mike Pereira for their Super Bowl coverage.

The Jets and Dolphins both played a small role in ending the Pats season. New England lost their final two games — both on the road at New York and Miami — and lost the top seed to Denver.

T.J. Ward‘s brutal hit on Patriots running back Brandon Bolden was correctly determined to be an unsportsmanlike penalty. The damage; Ward’s dirty play cost the Broncos one yard since Bolden was tackled at the 2-yard line. So for Ward, the reckless hit is well worth the risk.

Speaking of which, Shiloh Keo should have been ejected for his hit on Julian Edelman but no one knows what it takes to get thrown out of an NFL game.

George Steinbrenner would be on the war path today in light of the Mets reaching the World Series and spending big money to re-sign Yoenis Cespedes.

Stephen Curry beat LeBron James three times last week starting with the Warriors dominating win over the Cavs on Monday.

Then came the news that Curry has moved ahead of LeBron and now holds the top spot for the highest selling jersey. Curry also received more All Star votes than LeBron.

David Blatt didn’t stand a chance.

The Warriors and Spurs play for the first time on Monday but Tim Duncan has already been ruled out with a knee injury.

ISOLA: LEBRON JAMES NOW THE KING OF COACH KILLERS, TOO

Bryan Colangelo and Danny Ferry are the two names mentioned most for the Nets GM job. And if you hire Tom Thibodeau as head coach you’re onto something.

FYI: Curry’s favorite NFL team is the Carolina Panthers. The guy just doesn’t lose.

Nothing better or more predictable than local politicians congratulating themselves for a job well done for snow removal during a blizzard. We’ll be the judge of that, thank you.
